My medal design submitted to the UK Goldsmiths Craft and Design Council Awards in 2010 to the Medal Design category. The theme was favourite book/novel, so naturally I chose the Dark Tower series by Stephen King and got a Silver Award.

Painted using black Chinese ink and white gouache.

I have been thinking about it, to be honest with you, along with a number of design-only pieces that I produced during University. It would just be a case of finding the funding and the rights to produce it!

And thank you :)

Wow, thank you so much, Cassie :D My university was cleaning out all the bits and pieces it had left over from the year and they managed to find the original painting - very pleased :)

Magical books! Not a huge SK fan, but this and The Stand were head and shoulders above the others around then. (A fellow rope-worker, who I had a loose working partnership with for a few years, used to design climbing gear. He designed ice-axes which were a real breakthrough at the time, SK said they were the embodyment of black purpose, and although he knew the monster under the bed wasn't real he had one of Phils 'Predetors' under his pillow, just in case!! And what was the damned Raven called?? Must read them again read the first three as they were published, but never finished the series.)

That's interesting! I suppose when you spend enough time trying to understand the darker side of the human psyche and then writing fantasies based on them, a little extra caution couldn't go amiss ;)

And the raven from the first book was called Zoltan - I always imagined him two blind eyes, and I'm not sure why. Although in this case the crow is actually Walter, The Man In Black - if you ever get a chance have a look at The Dark Tower graphic novels, Walter is depicted as a black crow in the land of the Crimson King, and I rather grasped onto the idea.

Either way, I would definitely recommend finishing the series - I started late, but I've still been reading them for atleast four years - perhaps that's why I love them so ;) I felt distinctly lonely when I finished the series!
